| There is no
doubt that in the world we live there are many extremist groups which have in their
leadership equally extreme men and women. The reasons why such groups and their leaders
find expression are as varied and numerous as the groups themselves. There is no doubt
that appropriate and accurate measures and reporting need to be exercised on those groups
and leaders that physically and mentally harm and abuse their followers for power,
prestige, prominence, privilege, money or narcissistic satisfaction. In writing I do so from a Christian point of view in which the above mentioned groups wreak untold damage on the Church of Jesus Christ because the un-churched, person places all religious information that he receives from the media in the same mental box. Therefore when the so called "Guardian's of the Truth", the media, report on religious matters the regular person is unaware many times that the media is spinning a sensational web of half lies, half truths and wrongful insinuations for the purpose of catching the attention of readers, listeners and viewers. Rick Ross a self professed cult-buster and convicted felon epitomizes such media "pea brains" who have repeatedly commented, provided so called information and accused Christian groups and people as "cults" that I have personally been, and am still involved and continue to labor in the Lord Jesus Christ with. Mr. Ross lauds his self professed and valued opinion over many Christian groups that have, and continue to enhanced their communities, labor in the unseen to counsel the drug users, share a message of hope to the hopeless and uphold a set of Biblical values that all people and families can reference off for their lives despite his continued sniping and attacks. It is my opinion that Rick Ross has an alternative or parallel agenda regarding so called "fundamental" Christianity. In a court case brought against Mr. Ross for "Unlawful Imprisonment" (of a Christian man, in an attempt to forcibly change that mans interpretation of the Bible), the plaintiff produced two letter as written by Ross in 1987 & 1988 to Priscilla Coates (former executive director of CAN), which highlights and gives an insight into the self promotion and religious bigotry of Rick Ross. In the first letter (hand written) Ross is trying to garner referrals for "exit-counseling" because money is tight, but his letter concludes with the comment about the religious make-up of his home town, "....and an assortment of Bible based groups. There really is no escaping from them!" The second letter (typed) is in the same vain, Ross trying to garner referrals this time on Radio Stations in the L.A. area with his study of "Fundamentalism". "It might be controversial (good for ratings) to have someone on that had "deprogrammer" fundamental Christians. It might stimulate some cases in California. What do you think?" These two comments of Mr. Ross it could be said (which were used in evidence in the above mentioned court case), highlight two motivational forces behind Rick Ross
Ross cannot truly have any compassion on the families and individuals that suffer at the hands of these "groups" but sees them as "meal tickets" to be optimized and capitalized. Also see his article The Arizona Republic/November 6, 1982 "Bigotry lurks in born-again Christian doctrine"
These question need to be raised. Is Rick Ross a Guardian of the Truth or Garner of Attention? Is Mr. Ross seeking attention to himself for the same narcissistic satisfaction as do many cult leaders or should we view him in the same light as he portrays himself?
